As a first year student, college can be extremely overwhelming socially, academically, and emotionally. Despite that, coming from Rutgers Prep has lessened my academic stress because I was already used to a large work load and having to balance my academic work and extracurricular activities.
Another aspect that I am able to excel in because of going to Rutgers Prep is creating relationships with my teachers. Due to the fact that I had strong relationships with teachers in the Upper School, I felt comfortable creating these relationships with professors by going to office hours and letting them get to know me. Young students do find it challenging and intimidating to talk to professors, however because I had those relationships in the Upper School, it was very easy for me to make them in college.
The College Counseling program that starts in your junior year of high school is very unique because it forces students to start thinking early on where they ultimately want to end up. Ms. Krause and Ms. Riggi are probably the best things that ever happened to me at Prep and I often give them a lot of credit for my success in my college search.
